UGBFWS ensures that children use the internet to learn, connect with others, and express themselves. We agree to the need to protect children online. We ensure that every child is protected from all forms of violence and exploitation on using our platform. In support of these goal, we have identified some key priority areas. These are to protect children from-
1. Sexual abuse and exploitation facilitated by digital technologies
2. Bullying and harassment and other forms of violence facilitated by digital technologies.
3. Economic exploitation and personal data misuse in the digital environment.
4. Harmful content online, beyond the risks of exploitation or abuse, the digital environment can also negatively affect children’s mental health and well-being. Moreover, each of these four priority areas has potential mental health impacts for children. Mental health and psychosocial support must be a core component of any response strategy to online and technology-facilitated violence against children. This brief sets out five key recommendations for each priority area to drive positive change for children. The brief is intended for government ministries and departments focusing on children, gender, social services, justice, and technology/digitalisation.
